Our New Apartment!
So … I may have mentioned early on that our honeymoon period with New York might come to a halting screech once we went through the expected hell of looking for an apartment. Well, turns out our housing hunt was easier than usual, so unfortunately I don’t have any exciting war stories to tell. Except that time it was 4:45 and we were supposed to get certified checks from our bank for rent and security deposit and then overnight it back to New York (we were in the Bay Area for Thanksgiving) by 5pm. I guess that part wasn’t super fun. But still, we remain pretty starry-eyed. *Sheepish grin*
I think it helps that we started looking in November, which is apparently the slow season, and the period during which rent is the lowest. We probably found our place for $100-200 less per month than it would usually go for.
Here are some photos of our empty apartment. It’s like a blank slate. Oh, the possibilities! Please, if you get any bright ideas about how to arrange furniture or decorate, share them! It’s been almost two years since we’ve had our own place and over seven years since we’ve had the opportunity to really put together a home. I’m so excited to nest, I’m worried I’ll wake up some morning with a beak. Though that would be pretty awesome … mostly for eating nuts.
Welcome to our humble abode!
To the right, we have the kitchen, where I’ll be trying to not burn all my cooking experiments. And to the left, a cute little nook that we’re hoping to make into a small dining area.
New appliances! Whoo.
Here’s the one bedroom. As you can see, it looks like Miles has already started moving in. Since not sharing a bedroom with our toddler is this family’s one shot at NOT looking like extras from The Walking Dead, we’re probably going to give him the room while we treat our living room like a studio apartment. Ya do whatcha gotta do, right?
I probably don’t need to tell you which room that is. I really like the tiny checkers.
Look at all that storage space behind those mirrors!
And lastly, that’s our view.
That’s it folks. It’s nothing fancy, but we’re excited about our new home.
So who’s coming to visit? And who has great ideas for furnishing this blank canvas (especially to maximize a small space)? Comments below, please!
